I live in a state and city where right turn on red is allowed, unless otherwise posted.
So here’s the scenario: The light is red. It’s taking a while. You’re sitting in the rightmost lane at the intersection and the car in front of you is at the front of the line. Right turn on red is allowed (posted as “no turn on red when pedestrians are present”). There are no pedestrians and there’s a nice big gap in cross-traffic. Car in front of you doesn’t have any turn signals activated, so you assume they are going straight (it’s a travel lane). Light turns green. What occurs instead? Motherfucker turns right. Without signaling. When I pull up next to them at the next light, they are usually having a conversation on the phone or with a passenger. Made me wait for no reason. Fuck off.
Happened multiple times today and funny (or infuriating) thing was that at one point when it happened again, a line of cars was turning right with me, yet I was the ONLY car signaling right - and I DRIVE A BMW! So bizarre.
I honestly wouldn’t mind a blanket “no turn on red” rule to eliminate that uncertainty, but what pisses me off is that you think someone is going straight, but they are in fact turning right without activating their blinkah. I could have been in a different lane if I knew ahead of time they were turning.

Maybe they were undecided on turning until push came to shove. “well it’s green now so I gotta choose!”

Ah, haven’t thought of that. Still no excuse for not signaling though.

Where I live, most of the intersections have short right-turn only lanes just before the light which solves most of this. Where I grew up (PA) it was pretty common to see people wait at red lights just to turn right when they went green. I always thought they must have gotten a ticket for a right on red at an intersection where it was prohibited and never made a right on red again. I don’t miss it.

Just a story of something opposite that happened to me, my state (except for NYC) allows right on red unless posted otherwise as well. I was sitting at an intersection in the right lane, waiting to go straight across. I had no indicator on, to show to others as such that I was turning right.
I had some chode gargling fuckstick lay on their horn at me for a solid 30 seconds because I wouldn’t turn right on red BECAUSE I WASN’T FUCKING TURNING RIGHT. To add to the reasons why I wish I had the superpower to hate people to death - that fucking asshole also had no blinker on.

My pet peeve are the assholes that are oblivios to the fact that they are blocking a turn lane. They leave could pull up or move to the side of their lane and then cars could get around, but they don’t give a shit and just sit there.

You’re missing one key element. Pedestrians can’t walk against a red light, and they wait and then almost get hit by the guy who could have made the turn 10,000 times but instead guns it without looking when it turns green.

I’ve noticed often times (but not always) this happens at an intersection where there is a time-dependent No Turn on Red. Mostly near schools where it’s in effect during school hours on weekdays. And those culprits are mostly senior citizens, who I assume can’t read the hours and so just sit through the light to be safe.
But there are still too many people who sit there on their phone and turn without a signal once the light changes.

It’s easier to just wait for the light. Rather than inching forward and craning your neck trying to judge cross traffic. Maybe they were just relaxed and didn’t care.
Letting go of these little things makes driving much more pleasant. Remind yourself that this time period is the fastest anyone has ever gotten to travel throughout all history. Also, you’re sitting in a comfy chair with music and air conditioning. It’s a nice place to be. Enjoy it. Not saying you don’t realize these things either. Just a reminder.
